Spectra photosync tint review4/2/2023 ![]() ![]() I have an appointment at the tint shop next week to see if they can fix some bubbles and such. In all the fairness the interior is pretty cool even in direct sunlight. Driving on the Hwy 5 is a joke as back window lights up like a Christmas tree. The lights even from a single car refracts separately from each of the defroster wire position creating a column of glare. Lights from the cars in the side mirrors double, but that's nothing comparing to the rear window. Surrounding looks as if viewed through hot air raising from asphalt, except it is all over the place not just down where road is. The feeling is as if I look through a plastic bag (more like a fish looking out through the bag on the way out of the pet shop): sensation is particularly strong if looking across the windshield at a gliding angle. None of which will probably fix optical clarity. Some are tiny, some larger, some will possibly disappear and others the installer pledges to either fix or redo. I can still see plenty of tiny pin hole size bubbles on the front window, but also large wide purple and green bands all across the sky that move around as the relative Sun position changes. (Or sooner as we are in the federal emergency area with all the fires and triple digit heat these days). I was told to expect some haze and tiny bubbles that would dissipate in a couple of days. Four hours of labor and the film (65 all around and 75 for windshield) set me back $850. There is just one dealer in our village south of LA that carries Spectra Photosync. ![]() Still the specs looked nice and better than 3M and I decided to get the Prestige. Very little is known about the film or the company that makes it and all the reviews are done either by the company itself or the installers with videos of thermometers inside Ferraris and such showing how cool the interior was. The former has a rather peculiar brownish tint in shades below 70, while the latter is kind of bluish and is all the rave on Tesla forums. If money is no object, the search will rapidly collapse to the choice between 3M Crystalline and Prestige Photo Sync. I couldn't care less about the limo look. My objective was deceptively simple: I wanted the best there is on the market and the tint was to deliver maximum heat (IR) rejection along with maximum visible light transmittance while not compromising optical clarity of the BMW glass. Taking delivery of my new ride a month ago, I set to explore what is out there in the tint world. Wasn't much of a problem in upstate NY, but heat build up is an issue in SoCal. The UV is reduced by 99% and IR reduced by 98.5% the highest IR reducing window film on the market.Ok, I never had windows tinted before. What was once clear, single pane glass, is now high tech, heat reducing windows. We applied this clear adaptive film to all windows within the wheelhouse. ![]() Below are some photos of a crew boat from Starfleet Marine Inc.
